Mental health services through general practice

Suicide prevention and first aid

A primary role of the General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) is the development of competencies in mental health service provision.

The GPMHSC identified a need for an easy-to-access guide to the Stepped Care Model for general practitioners (GPs) in Australia.

This guide aims to:

  • support the implementation of the Stepped Care Model
  • encourage communication between general practice and Primary Health Networks (PHNs)
  • promote shared-care decision making with carers and consumers.

At the end of this guide comes with a list useful resources, including PHN website links, and an appendix with current Medicare rebates.
