AIHW releases report on suicide and self-harm in Australia
The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) released a report in November 2021 detailing new insights into suicide and self-harm in Australia.
During 2019, there were 3,318 deaths by suicide in Australia and 3,139 in 2020. Over this two-year period, there were more than 28,600 hospital admissions due to intentional self-harm.
The report considered the effect of four potentially modifiable risk factors on suicide and self-harm, including child abuse, intimate partner violence, as well as alcohol and illicit drug use.
