New services and support for carers

Developed specifically for carers, the Carer Gateway helps carers access practical information and online support services for people who care for someone with mental illness, disability or other chronic illness. New early-intervention services and supports will be available on the Carer Gateway website, including, peer support, phone-based counselling services, self-guided coaching and practical skills courses.

GPs should familiarise themselves with the new services that are based on evidence. The new services demonstrate that the best way to help carers is to help them early in their caring role before reaching crisis point. Additionally, increasing confidence and skills in caring has shown a reduction in the stress that comes with caring.

To find out more about the new services available, visit the Carer Gateway website.
